Miossi Gun Works LLC

About us:

Miossi Gun Works started out as a part time business from my lifetime love of guns, especially handguns. As a person who not only wants to know how things work, I want to make them work better. My job schedule allowed this, as I was a Firefighter/Paramedic in the Chicago area and worked 24 hours on and 48 off. This not only gave me time to do a lot of shooting, but also tinkering.  My interest grew and soon I was working with a gunsmith at a shooting range that I co-managed.  I learned a lot of the dos and don'ts from him and had access to more tools then I knew what to do with.  But I was determined to learn each and every one, including the mill and lathe.  But the most valuable tool I have is my experience and attention to detail.  The file and many cutting stones are the next most used and valuable tools I own.
When I work on your gun I treat it as if it were my own personal gun.  No short cuts, no oversight and no hurry.  I work on one gun at a time from start to finish, that's how it should be. No production work or having one person doing part of the job and someone else doing another.

Miossi Gun Works opened its shop in 1985 in Mundelein, Illinois.   We were involved mostly in IPSC and Bullseye shooting.  We built and customized a lot of 1911's as they dominated the competitive shooting scene.  The Beretta and Glocks were about to hit the market in a very big way.  The Beretta slowly died off during the mid 90's, but the Glocks kept growing and Smith & Wesson eventually revamped their semi auto's.  Sig Arms kept producing their high quality P series, and Ruger entered the centerfire semiauto scene.  To keep up with the market trends, we became factory certified armorer's for Sig Arms, Glock, Smith & Wesson and Beretta.  We began to service many local LE Agency's on an annual basis.  Then, in 2001, we relocated to Monticello, Iowa.   With the 1994 Clinton Gun and Magazine ban, many shooters came back to the single stack 1911, but thankfully that ended in 2004.  With the fall of communism and the Eastern Block we began to see some great firearms become available to us.  One of the best and my favorite is the CZ 75 and its line of high quality and well engineered pistols.  The CZ can be tuned into one of the best actions, and they are very accurate out of the box.  The CZ has close to perfect ergonomics and is very affordable.  With the 10 round magazine ban history, this gun is really picking up in popularity for a lot of good reasons.  We saw a need for a custom hard sear as the factory sear was just too soft for an action job that would out last or at least hold up for the life of the gun.  We now produce the Miossi Custom Hard Sear for the 75 and 75B actions.  This sear has a Rockwell rating of 55C and we are now able to offer an action job that will well out last the life of the gun.  We are looking at producing other high quality aftermarket parts for this terrific pistol.

Trigger Job vs. Action Job

Trigger jobs and action jobs differ in many ways.  A trigger job for most gunsmiths only involves stoning the proper angles on the sear and hammer, lowering the hammer hooks and changing out the mainspring.  Once the desired pull weight and let off are achieved they are done.

An action job involves all moving parts of the gun, deburing the frame and parts, removing tool marks and then polishing all the parts. The last thing done on an action job is to stone the sear and hammer, lowering the hammer hooks and changing out the mainspring if desired.  This includes the firing pin and firing pin block, hammer strut, trigger and trigger bar, disconnector, pins, hammer sides, and sear sides.  All of these parts need a lower friction coefficient for a smoother feeling trigger pull and to ensure that nothing is hindering or taking away the full force of the actual strike of the firing pin against the chambered round.  A trigger job is easy and not all that time consuming but an action job requires attention to the smallest detail and is very time consuming and labor intensive.

There is a big difference between the two, and we only do action jobs.  Make sure that your gun gets a true action job, whoever does the work.

Fair and honest shipping policy

It is our policy to have fair and honest shipping prices on all of our services and products.  We use actual shipping cost by order weight and insurance costs, rather than your order total or a flat rate for shipping. We do not charge handling fees, period.  We charge you only what we pay.  If you overpaid, we will send you a refund.  If you under paid we will send you a bill for the balance, but we will not hold up your gun or order waiting for payment.  We believe the honor system works well within the shooting community.
